Crystal River Energy Complex - Environmental Protection Plan Report: 2018 Sea Turtle Rescue and Recovery Summary Report

Dear Sir:

Duke Energy Florida, LLC, hereby provides the 2018 Sea Turtle Rescue and Recovery Summary Report.

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and the Crystal River Energy Complex (CREC) completed a reinitiation of consultation subsequent to the Endangered Species Act Section 7 regarding turtles at the CREC on August 8, 2002.

The Biological Opinion issued by NMFS requested that an annual sea turtle report be provided for the CREC by March 1 of each year. The attached report provides this information for 2018 from January 1, 2018 to December 31 , 2018.

This letter establishes no regulatory commitments.

9/10/18 0900 Lepidochelys 26.7 18CRS-001 Carcass was preserved for transfer to Fish kempii and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) for necropsy. Considered a causal mortality.

Green Sea Severely decomposed carcass recovered Turtle from CR 1&2 bar rack. Head and flippers 11/10/18 1400 37.5 18CRS-002 Chelonia mydas missing, scutes sloughing off. Remains buried on site. Non-causal mortality.

Size is curved carapace length in centimeters.
