| Description | Title 10 CFR Part 72.122(c), Protection against Fires and Explosions, states that Noncombustible and heat-resistant materials must be used wherever practical throughout the Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation. Contrary to this, on May 10, 2010, the licensee identified lumber being staged inside the transient combustible exclusion zone near the independent spent fuel storage installation.
The licensee had the material removed from the area and restored compliance. This issue was documented in the licensees corrective action program in Condition Report CR-GGN-2010-03739. This finding is of very low safety significance because although it violated the licensees program for the control of transient combustibles in an exclusion zone, it was determined to be of low degradation due to the amount of material staged was approximately 200 pounds of fire resistant wood and material location was greater than 70 feet away from the dry fuel storage pad. |
