2C Diesel Generator - Inoperable This report was initiated by Incident Report 81-330.

CONDITIONS PP.IOR TO OCCURRENCE:

Mode 1 - Rx Power 90% - Unit Load 1010 MWe DESCRIPTION OF OCCURRENCE:

On August 13, 1981, sparks were noticed emanating from the motor of the prelubrication pump on 2C diesel generator.

The motor was sub-sequently removed, and sent for rewinding.

No action statement was entered because the prelubrication pump was not specified as an item which would render the diesel inoperable.

On August 14, 1981, Alco Engine Division was consulted as to the starting ability of the diesel without a prelubrication pump.

They stated that after a period of twelve hours without prelubrication, the diesel will not attain 900 rpm in 10 seconds.

At 1130 hours0.0131 days <br />0.314 hours <br />0.00187 weeks <br />4.29965e-4 months <br />, August 14, 1981, 2C diesel generator was declared inoperable, and action-statement 3.8.1.1.a was entered.

DESIGNATION OF APPARENT CAUSE OF OCCURRENCE:

2C diesel was inoperable due to lack of lubrication for greater than 12 hours1.388889e-4 days <br />0.00333 hours <br />1.984127e-5 weeks <br />4.566e-6 months <br /> from the prelubrication pump.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

The motor of the prelubrication pump was. rewound and reinstalled.

The pump assembly was tested satisfactorily.

Surveillance procedure SP(O) 4.8.1.1.2 was satisfa ctorily performed on 2C diesel within the required starting time.

At 2100 hours0.0243 days <br />0.583 hours <br />0.00347 weeks <br />7.9905e-4 months <br />, August 15, 1981, 2C diesel was returned to service and action statement 3.8.1.1.a was terminated.
