TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE REQUEST - REVIEW OF MAINE YANKEE RESPONSE AND EXEMPTION REQUEST TO THE REVISED 10 CFR 73.55 RULE (TAC NO. L24499)

The Division of Spent Fuel Storage and Transportation (SFST), Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards (NMSS), requests technical assistance from the Division of Security Policy (DSP), Nuclear Security and Incident Response (NSIR), for the completion of the following project:

PROJECT: Security Evaluation of Maine Yankee's response and exemption request to the revised 10 CFR 73.55 rule.

DOCKET NOS: 50-309, 72-30 TAC NO: L24499 LICENSE NO: DPR-36 REQUESTED ACTION: NMSS/SFST requests that NSIR/DSP review Maine Yankee's response and exemption request to the revised 10 CFR 73.55 rule. (November 29, 2010, cover letter enclosed; the SUNSI attachments are referenced in ADAMS, (ML103410498)). Based on the results of your review, prepare a Security Evaluation documenting the staff's reasons for approving or denying the proposed changes.

To facilitate this request, we ask that you respond by June 30, 2011. Should any additional information be needed from the applicant to support your review, we ask that you transmit a draft Request for Additional Information to us by May 1, 2011. The applicant will normally be allowed two months to provide a response. The SFST project manager will keep your staff informed of any schedule changes.
