iseo Saxton Nuclear Experimental Corporation to operate its light weter moderated and cooled, pressurired water reactor located near the Borough of Saxton in Liberty Township, Bedford County, PenrSylvania.
The proposed amend-l..
ment would authorize the licensee to replace its present uranium-oxide reactor l
core with a partial plutonium core (Core II).
On April 30, 1965, Amendment No.
I to Operating License No. DPR-4 was issued, authorizing the conduct of proof
)
tests for the partial plutonium core.
Within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice in the Federal Register, the applicant may file a request for a hearing, and any person whose interest may be affected by this proceeding may file a petition foo leave to intervene.

AEC CONSIDERS AMENDMENT TO SAXTON REACTOR LICENS The Atomic Energy Commission is considering an amendment to the license of Saxton Nuclear Experimental Corporation to permit the use of a partial plutonium core in the company's reactor at Saxton, Pennsylvania.
The.Saxton reactor, located 20 miles southeast of Altoona,- presently is being operated with enriched uran second core would contain a mixture of enriched uranium and fuel.
The remaining 12 fuel assemblies would contain plutonium.
enriched uranium, as at present.
The? AEC Regulatory Staff has reviewed the application and has concluded that thic proposed coeration of the reactor can be conducted without endangering tne health and safety The Commission's-Advisory-Committee on Reactor Safeguards also reported favorably _on the application of the public.
