l UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY C0441SS10N NOTICE OF ISSUANCE OF AMENDMENT TO (TTILIZATION FACILITY LICENSE SAXTON NUCLEAR EXPERIENTAL CORPORATICH DOCKET NO. 50-146 Please take notice that, purstent to the Initial Decision of the Presiding Officer dated August 31, 1962, the Atomic Energy Commission has issued Amendrent No. I to Provisional Operating License No. DPR-4 The license authorites Saxton Nuclear Experimental Corporation to operate its nuclear reactor located near the Borough of Saxton in Liberty Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
The amendment (1) authorises Saxton Nuclear Erperimental Corporation to conduct Phase I of the Research and Development Program, (2) authorises necessary related changes in the existing license and Technical Specifications, and (3) extends the term of the license to September 30, 1963.

Ext. 3446 AEC AMENDS SAXTON REACTOR LICENSE The Atomic Energy Commission has amended the provi-sional operating license of Saxton Nuclear Experimental Corporation, Reading, Pennsylvania, to permit the first phase of a research and development program in the company's nuclear reactor located at Saxton, Pennsylvania.
Expiration date of Saxton's_ provisional license has been extended from December 31, 1962, to September 30, 1963, in order to provide additional time to carry out the experimential work.
Issuance of the amended license follows a public hearing held July 24 and a decision of Hearing Examiner E. Riggs-McConnell, dated August 31.
The decision became final-on October 2.
In his decision, Examiner McConnell found, among other things, that there is reasonable 1
assurance that the activities authorized by the amended i
license -an be carried out without onc

Its primary purpnac is -reaearch and developimmt is connected to.an existing turbine generator at the Saxton steam generating plant of Pennsylvania Electric Company 20 miles southeast of Altoona.
Full rated power of the reactor facility is 5,000 electrical kilowatts.
