APPLICATION FOR THE MODEL NO. OPTIMUS-L TRANSPORT PACKAGE -
ACCEPTANCE LETTER
Dear Mr. Fowler:
By letter dated September 9, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Package Accession No. ML20266G182), NAC International (NAC) submitted an application for approval of the Model No. OPTIMUS-L transport package. The application is for a new package design for shipment of transuranic waste and irradiated fuel waste. Staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine whether it contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to complete a detailed technical review.
Observations from our acceptance review are included in the enclosure to this letter. However, the application appears to contain the necessary information to begin our detailed technical review. The schedule allows for the staff to issue a possible request for additional information by the first week of April 2021, and, if no additional information is needed, issuance of a certificate of compliance by the end of September 2021, based on you responding to the request for additional information by the end of May 2021. The staff estimates that completing the safety review of this application will require approximately 850 staff hours.
