SUBJECT:

AMENDMENT NO. 11 TO THE MODEL NO. MAGNASTOR STORAGE CASK -

ACCEPTANCE LETTER

Dear Mr. Fowler:

By letter dated July 14, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Package Accession No. ML20210M079), NAC International (NAC) submitted an application for Amendment No. 11 to the Model No. MAGNASTOR storage cask. The application proposes to add a new concrete overpack, a light-weight transfer cask, and revised boiling-water reactor fuel characteristics, including damaged boiling-water reactor spent fuel. Staff performed an acceptance review of your application to determine whether it contains sufficient technical information in scope and depth to allow the staff to complete a detailed technical review.

This letter is to advise you that, based on our acceptance review, the application contains sufficient technical information. We established a schedule for the technical review of your amendment request. The schedule allows for the staff to issue a possible request for additional information by mid-February 2021, and, if no additional information is needed, a draft certificate of compliance and safety evaluation report for rulemaking by the end of March 2021, based on you responding to the request for additional information the first week in April 2021. The staff estimates that completing the safety review of this application will require approximately 1000 staff hours.

Please reference Docket No. 72-1031 and Enterprise Project Identifier (EPID) No.

L-2020-LLA-0158 in future correspondence related to this request.

Sincerely, Bernard H. Digitally signed by Bernard H. White White Date: 2020.10.05 11:07:24 -04'00' Bernard H.
