Summary: Today's brief of Senate EPW Committee Staff on the Farley AIT FYI: - Region 2 (Shaeffer & Ernstes) briefed Kathy Dedrick (Majority) and Annie Caputo (Minority) regarding the Farley AIT on breaker failures. They did an excellent brief. - Steve Alexander (DRA), Karen Cotton (DORL) and I supported for NRR. OCA and OEDO staff also attended. - Key info provided on the preliminary AIT results included: (a) the breakers failures were from two independent causes; (b) they appear to be Farley-specific issues and thus non-generic; and, (c) NRC staff at this point is satisfied, and will continue to monitor, the long-term corrective actions associated with the breaker failures. - Ms. Caputo also inquired about the recent preliminary yellow finding at Farley. She thought that the CCW system breaker failures and the preliminary yellow finding (on repetitive failures of an RHR containment sump valve) were related. Scott Shaeffer addressed the preliminary yellow in detail and to her satisfaction. -

They appeared interested in the preliminary yellow in relation to the briefing on the ROP this Friday that DIRS will be giving to the committee. - The staff has no followup actions as a result of the briefing. DORL plans to submit an EDO Daily Note tomorrow. Let us know if you have any questions.
