January 26, 2010 Mr. W.S. Oxenford, Senior Vice President, Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer Columbia Generating Station Energy Northwest MD PE08 P.O. Box 968 Richland, WA 99352

SUBJECT:

RECEIPT AND AVAILABILITY OF THE LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION FOR THE COLUMBIA GENERATING STATION

Dear Mr. Oxenford:

On January 20, 2010, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the Energy Northwests application for renewal of Operating License No. NPF-21 for the Columbia Generating Station. We are currently performing an acceptance review for docketing in accordance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 2.101 (10 CFR 2.101) and will notify you of the results of our review. Should the NRC staff determine that the application is acceptable for docketing, a schedule for the review will then be provided to you.

We have enclosed for your information a copy of the notice relating to your application that is being sent to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Evelyn Gettys as the Project Manager for the safety review, and Mr. Daniel Doyle as the Project Manager for the environmental review of your license renewal application. Please forward copies of all license renewal correspondence to Ms. Gettys and Mr. Doyle. Mr. Fred Lyon continues to remain responsible for the project management of all issues other than license renewal for Columbia Generating Station.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact Ms. Gettys by telephone at 301-415-4029 or by e-mail at Evelyn.Gettys@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
