8/17 Discussion with licensee at Palisades

1. Extent of condition NDE on CRDM housings with only cover the area where the flaw occurred on CRDM 24. The licensee feels they understand the failure mechanism to be similar to Fort Calhoun. They recognize they are at risk only doing this small area.
2. They think NDE machine will most likely arrive on Sunday. They will call Elba when the truck leaves Pittsburgh.

The machine is conventional not phased array.

3. The licensee will do an NDE on CRDM 24 of the area above the flaw that they did not do the other day on site before they send it to Lynchberg.
4. The new replacement housing is NOT a like for like replacement. There is no longer an inlay weld. The 316 area will now be 347 but the whole thing will be annealed. This makes a difference as far as TGSCC goes.
5. They will provide us with as found and as left bare metal pictures.
6. Bare metal inspection -two handfuls of BA to clean up - there was crusted BA but no wastage when it was removed - no indications that more insulation needed to be removed for further inspections. Elba says they thoroughly cleaned the head. We will compare pics from this bare metal visual to last bare metal visual.
