PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION - REGION III November 12, 2014 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT OR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE - PNO-III-14-010A This preliminary notification constitutes EARLY notice of events of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. Some of the information may not yet be fully verified or evaluated by the Region III staff.

UPDATE: D.C. COOK DUAL UNIT MANUAL TRIP RESULTING IN A SHUTDOWN FOR GREATER THAN 72 HOURS ON UNIT 2 D.C. Cook Unit 2 restarted on November 10, 2014. Both Unit 1 and 2 were manually shut down on November 1, after high winds and lake turbulence caused grass and debris to accumulate on the traveling water screens. The licensee restarted Unit 1 on November 3; however, Unit 2 remained shut down due to an unrelated equipment issue. While Unit 2 was shut down, the licensee removed accumulated debris from the trash racks and traveling water screens of both units. On November 10, the licensee restarted Unit 2. Unit 2 connected to the grid on November 11, 2014.

This preliminary notification is issued for information only and no further action by the staff is anticipated.

The information presented herein has been discussed with the licensee, and is current as of 1430 CST on November 12, 2014.
