No: II-16-003 March 2, 2016 CONTACT: Roger Hannah 404-997-4417 Joey Ledford 404-997-4416 NRC Names New Resident Inspector for Oconee Nuclear Power Station Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials in Atlanta have selected Jason Parent as a resident inspector for the Oconee Nuclear Station, located near Seneca, S.C., about 30 miles west of Greenville. The three units at the Oconee site are licensed to Duke Energy.

Parent began his career with the NRC in the agencys Resident Inspector Development Program and qualified as a reactor operations inspector in the agencys Region II office in Atlanta. Prior to being assigned as the resident inspector at Oconee, he performed rotations as acting resident inspector at the Catawba Nuclear Station and the Robinson Nuclear Plant, both in South Carolina.

Before joining the NRC, he worked for the U.S. Navys Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He holds a bachelors degree in Aeronautical & Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y.

Jason Parent has the experience and dedication to help ensure the Oconee plant is operated according to NRC regulations and in a way that protects people and the environment, said NRC Region II Administrator Cathy Haney.

Parent joins NRC Senior Resident Inspector Eddy Crowe and Resident Inspector Natasha Childs at the Oconee Station.

Each operating U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors. They serve as the agencys eyes and ears at the facility, conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public. Inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
