Dear Mr Chairman:

On behalf of NH AFL-CIO, I write to offer our members' support for the licensing renewal and amendment for Seabrook Station. Nuclear energy in the United State is safe, clean and reliable, more so than at any time since its introduction as a clean power source and Seabrook Station exemplifies that description.

Despite being one of the most effective and secure methods of clean energy, that fact is not often championed in the public domain. This is the case with Seabrook Station nuclear power plant, which has provided New Hampshire and New England communities with safe, reliable,

environmentally friendly, low-cost power free of safety violations for 29 years.

This safety record is due in no small part to the vigilance of hundreds of skilled union workers who provide the day-to-day routine maintenance and security at Seabrook Station. The Station's workers are the best source on safety and efficiency. They wouldn't work at Seabrook if it was not safe. In fact, if it was unsafe, they would not even want their homes and those of their neighbors to be powered by Seabrook. Our workers at Seabrook Station fully support keeping the plant open so that it can continue to serve the region with safe, modern, efficient and clean power.

The workers at Seabrook keep the plant safe and efficient 24 hours2.777778e-4 days
0.00667 hours
3.968254e-5 weeks
9.132e-6 months
a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and they feel strongly that Seabrook's license should be extended for another 20 years.

The AFL-CIO workers at Seabrook aren't just proud of the work they do but are also proud to work in an industry that doesn't damage our environment.

It is speculated that if Seabrook Station was closed, its significant generation capacity would need to be replaced. In today's energy market, the loss of this energy source would move us on a backwards path to environment degradation.

As all six New England states grapple with how to achieve ambitious emissions-reduction goals, it's unclear how these objectives can be accomplished with an energy source far less clean than nuclear power.

Maintaining the sustainable energy produced by the Seabrook Station nuclear power plant is good for New England. It provides the region with clean and safe energy, creates jobs, and drives the economy.

AFL-CIO workers fully support keeping the plant open and with NRC's proper review, the public will be able to trust that the plant is in good hands with highly skilled professionals who are the best in the business.

In Solidarity:

{J(~b~

Glenn Brackett, President NH AFL-CIO
