[External_Sender] Seabrook Power Plant Date: Tuesday, September 24, 2019 9:02:31 AM Attachments: Screen Shot 2019-09-24 at 8.54.26 AM.png The seabrook plant owner, NextEra has admitted that the concrete surrounding the reactor is compromised due to an alkali silica reaction (ASR) that is slowly degrading the structural integrity of the containment vessel. The license for the plant to operate has already been extended by the NRC from 2030 to 2050.

This hearing has been requested and granted so that the judges of the NRC's Atomic Safety and Licensing Board should decide if the decision needs to be reversed. I truly believe that transparency in mitigation efforts need to be in place to address this isolated issue that is facing only this nuclear reactor out of the 98 reactors in the US. With no experience on how to handle this issue, we must ask that the NRC require the owners to collaborate with experts around the world to demonstrate their due diligence prior to a license extension.
