OF CONFERENCE CALL WITH AMERGEN ENERGY COMPANY, LLC, TO DISCUSS DRAFT REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR SECTIONS 4.2 AND 4.4 OF THE THREE MILE ISLAND NUCLEAR STATION, UNIT 1, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NO. MD7701)

On June 05, 2008, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) conducted a conference call (teleconference) with representatives from AmerGen Energy Company, LLC (AmerGen), to discuss draft requests for additional information (RAIs) regarding Sections 4.2 and 4.4 of the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 (TMI-1), license renewal application (LRA). Enclosure 1 lists the participants in the conference call.

The purpose of the conference call was so that AmerGen staff could gain clarification for specific items in the draft RAIs. Enclosure 2 is the draft RAIs that were sent by e-mail to the applicant (ADAMS Accession No. ML081710470). After the introductions, representatives of AmerGen and NRC clarified the purpose of the phone call which was to clarify the requests in the draft RAIs, and not for the applicant to provide answers. No staff decisions were made during the conference call.

Discussions during the conference call were as follows:

RAI-4.2.0.0-01/LRA Section 4.2

1. AmerGen to respond to request including providing its analysis that is done in accordance with BAW-2241P-A. 2. AmerGen to correct reference concerning Regulatory Guide 1.190, Revision 2, in response.

RAI-4.4.1.0-01/LRA Section 4.4.1

1. NRC staff will review LRA Appendix B (B.3.1.1) to determine if it contains the needed information and if so, the request will be deleted. 2. NRC staff will assess whether they will request this under RAI or address during the AMP Audit. Objective is not to duplicate. 3. Same as #2. 4. Same as #2.

RAI-4.4.1.0-02/LRA Section 4.4.1

1. NRC to review BAW-1999 and BAW-1847 and determine if they contain the needed information and if so, the request will be deleted. 2. Same as question 1 (above).

3. Deleted. RAI-4.4.1.0-03/LRA Section 4.4.1

1. NRC staff to review MRP-140 to determine if it contains the needed information and if so, the request will be deleted. 2. NRC staff will assess whether they will request this under RAI or address during the AMP Audit. Objective is not to duplicate. 3. Staff to review MRP-140 to determine if it contains the needed information and if so, the request will be deleted.

RAI-4.4.1.0-04/LRA Section 4.4.1

1. AmerGen to respond to request indicating that the impact of the power uprate on the leak before break (LBB) piping and fatigue flow growth analysis has been reviewed.

RAI-4.4.1.0-05/LRA Section 4.4.1

1. NRC staff will review Nickel Alloy and ISI Appendix B program descriptions and determine if request is still needed. AMP Audit may not look at non-GALL programs and request would still be needed.

RAI-4.4.2.0-01/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. This request will be combined with Draft RAI 4.4.2.0-02. AmerGen will respond to the combined question by clarifying the history and sequence of the analyses, and will provide the document referred to by Areva as the "51" document as part of the response.

RAI-4.4.2.0-02/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. Request will be combined with RAI 4.4.2.0-01. See above.

RAI-4.4.2.0-03/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. AmerGen will submit response, indicating that the TMI pump casings have no girth welds.

RAI-4.4.2.0-04/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. Deleted. Covered under RAIs 4.4.2.0-5 and 4.4.2.0-06.

RAI-4.4.2.0-05/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. AmerGen will submit a response indicating that the pump nozzle(s) are also covered and that the staff positions dated May 19, 2000, are satisfied.

RAI-4.4.2.0-06/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. Amergen will submit a response.

RAI-4.4.2.0-07/LRA Section 4.4.2

1. Amergen will submit a response indicating that that Section 4.4.2 is based on fully saturated material properties.
