April 16, 2015 In the Matter of PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY (Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos. 50

-275-LR and 50-323-LR RE: Projected Schedule for Completion of the Safety and Environmental Evaluations

Dear Administrative Judges:

Pursuant to the Board's Revised Scheduling Order of November 19, 201 2, this letter informs the Board of the NRC Staff's current milestone schedule for the Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 license renewal safety evaluation and environmental review.

PG&E's April 14, 2015 status report indicates that the milestone schedule is unchanged since PG&E's last submittal on March 10, 2015. It also states that PG&E will inform the NRC of the timing of any updated coastal consistency review filings when a schedule is established.

PG&E submitted updates to the environmental report, including the severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis, in February. PG&E also submitted updates to the DCPP seismic hazard in March 2015 in response to NRC letter dated March 12, 2012, regarding the 10 CFR 50.54(f) request for information pursuant to a post Fukushima Near-Term Task Force r ecommendation. The cover letter to PG&E's February submittal explains that PG&E is currently scheduled to complete an evaluation of the 2015 seismic hazard results on the SAMA analysis by June 2015.

Based on PG&E's submittals, the Staff is reassessing its schedule for the completion of the draft supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) and the final SEIS, and will provide the Board with further information next month.

In terms of the Staff's safety evaluation, the safety evaluation report (SER) was issued on June 2, 2011, and it will be supplemented as necessary to include any new information provided in PG&E's December 2014 and February 2015 update s or relevant from operating Administrative Judge Paul S.
