Docket Nos. 50-275-LR and 50-323-LR RE: Projected Schedule for Completion of the Safety and Environmental Evaluations

Dear Administrative Judges:

Pursuant to the Boards Revised Scheduling Order of November 19, 2012, this letter informs the Board of the NRC Staffs current milestone schedule for the Diablo Canyon (DCPP)

Units 1 and 2 license renewal safety evaluation and environmental review.

PG&Es September 8, 2015 status report indicates that the milestone schedule is unchanged since PG&Es last submittal. It also states that PG&E will inform the NRC of the timing of any updated coastal consistency review filings when a schedule is established.

PG&E submitted updates to the environmental report, including the severe accident mitigation alternatives (SAMA) analysis, in February 2015. On July 1, 2015, PG&E submitted another update to the SAMA analysis, based on updates to the DCPP seismic hazard submitted in response to NRC letter dated March 12, 2012, regarding the 10 CFR 50.54(f) request for information pursuant to a post Fukushima Near-Term Task Force recommendation.

Based on PG&Es recent submittals, the Staff expects that it will publish the draft supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) in August 2016 and the final SEIS by May 2017.

In terms of the Staffs safety evaluation, the safety evaluation report (SER) was issued on June 2, 2011, and it will be supplemented as necessary to include any new information provided in PG&Es December 2014 and February 2015 updates or relevant from operating experience, and information relevant to Diablo Canyon submitted in response to the staffs updated guidance since 2011. The Staff expects to issue a supplemental SER in August 2016.

Respectfully submitted,

/Signed (electronically) by/
