SUBJECT: RENSSELAER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE-U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION OPERATIONS INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-225/2016-202

Dear Dr. Caracappa:

On October 17-20, 2016, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC, the Commission) conducted a security inspection at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The inspection results were discussed on October 20, 2016.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to security and compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations and with the conditions of your license.

The inspectors reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel. Based on the results of this inspection, no findings of non-compliance were identified. No response to this letter is required.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 2.390, "Public inspections, exemptions and requests for withholding," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)). ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Web site at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). However, because of the security-related items contained in the inspection report, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of the inspection report will not be available for public inspection. Should you have any questions concerning this inspection, please contact Mr. Ossy Font at (301) 415-2490 or electronic mail at Ossy.Font@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,/RA/
