Mr. Ralph Butler, Director Research Reactor Center University of Missouri - Columbia Research Park Columbia, MO 65211

SUBJECT: UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI, COLUMBIA - NRC SECURITY-RELATED INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-186/2012-202

Dear Mr. Butler:

On June 4-6, 2012, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted a security inspection at your University of Missouri - Columbia Research Reactor facility. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your facility. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.

The inspection examined activities conducted under your license as they relate to security and compliance with the Commission's rules and regulations, as well as compliance with the conditions of your license. The inspector reviewed selected procedures and records, observed activities, and interviewed personnel. Based on the results of this inspection, no safety concerns or non-compliances with NRC requirements were identified. No response to this letter is required.

In accordance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) Section 2.390 "Public inspections, exemptions, requests for withholding," a copy of this letter will be available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the NRC's document system (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS)).

ADAMS is accessible from the NRC Website at http://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html (the Public Electronic Reading Room). However, because of the security-related items contained in the enclosure, and in accordance with 10 CFR 2.390(d), a copy of the enclosure will not be available for public inspection.

Sincerely,/RA/

Gregory T. Bowman, Chief Research and Test Reactors Oversight Branch Division of Policy and Rulemaking Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Docket No. 50-186 License No. R-103
