October 18, 2012 In the Matter of PACIFIC GAS AND ELECTRIC COMPANY (Diablo Canyon Power Plant, Units 1 and 2)

Docket Nos. 50

-275-LR and 50-323-LR RE: Projected Schedule for Completion of the Safety and Environmental Evaluations

Dear Administrative Judges:

Pursuant to the Board's Order of August 5, 2010 (Scheduling Initial Scheduling Conference), this letter informs the Board of the NRC Staff's current milestone schedule for the Diablo Canyon Units 1 and 2 license renewal safety evaluation and environmental review.

In light of PG&E's status report filed with the Board on October 9, 2012 , the Staff expects to issue the DSEIS in January of 201 5. Subsequent to issuing the DSEIS

, the Staff expects to finalize its safety and environmental reviews, to include issuance of the supplemental environmental impact statement (SEIS) and any necessary supplements to the safety evaluation report by the end of June 201 5. This estimate is based on the applicant issuing its final report on the seismic studies by September 2014, as stated in PG&E's Updated Best Estimate Schedule for Seismic Studies attached to PG&E's October 9, 2012 update to the Board.
