Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Schedules Open House and Virtual Meetings to Discuss 2022 Performance of Three TVA Nuclear Power Plants
Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold two public meetings to discuss the 2022 safety performance of the Tennessee Valley Authoritys Browns Ferry, Sequoyah, and Watts Bar nuclear power plants. The NRC is holding the meeting both in-person and virtually to allow more opportunities for the public to attend.
The first meeting is an open house scheduled for May 10 and will run from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Eastern time at the Soddy-Daisy Municipal Building, 9835 Dayton Pike in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee.
The second meeting will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams, May 17 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Eastern time. The telephone conference number for those without access to Teams is 301 -576-2978, passcode 289195342#.
The three-unit Browns Ferry plant is located in northern Alabama, and the Sequoyah and Watts Bar plants, both of which have two units, are located in eastern Tennessee.
NRC resident inspectors and other inspection specialists from the NRC Region II office in Atlanta perform inspections at the Browns Ferry, Sequoyah, and Watts Bar plants. They found that the three plants operated safely during 2022.
The NRC Reactor Oversight Process uses color-coded inspection findings and indicators to measure plant performance. The colors start at green and increase to white, yellow or red, commensurate with the safety significance of the issues involved. Inspection findings or performance indicators with more than very low safety significance trigger increased NRC oversight.
The annual assessment letters for the TVA plants, including upcoming inspection plans as well as current performance informationare available on the NRC w ebsite.
