Dave Gasperson, 404-997-4417 NRC Names New Resident Inspector at Oconee Nuclear Plant

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected Dzu Dang as its new resident inspector at the Oconee Nuclear Station in Seneca, South Carolina. He joins Senior Resident Inspector Nick Smalley and Resident Inspector Evan Robinson at the Oconee plant, operated by Duke Energy.

Dang joined the NRC in 2023 as a project engineer through the Resident Inspector Development Program in the Region II Office in Atlanta.

Before joining the NRC, he worked for nearly a decade as a nuclear engineer at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington.

Dang earned bachelors degrees in biological sciences from San Jose State University and mechanical engineering from Washington State University.

Dzus extensive experience in nuclear engineering and safety makes him a valuable addition to our team at Oconee, said NRC Region II Administrator Laura Dudes. His experience at the naval shipyard and the hands-on training hes received during inspector qualifications will help him play a key role in ensuring the plant continues to meet the agencys standards.

Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant has at least two NRC resident inspectors who monitor day-to-day operations at the plant. They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections, overseeing significant projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public.
