N to The Babcock & Wilcox Company, Commercial Nuclear Fuel Plant requests amendment of SNM-1168 to accommodate changes needed in.our by-product possession authorization.
Presently, we have a limit (Section V, Page 3, Paragraph 3.11) of "
0.5 curies of by-product material as contamination on/within equipment, and/or as waste".
This limit is used in conjunction with our ECHO-330 Failed Fuel Rod Detection System as described on Pages 67-75 of Section V of SNM-1168.
Recently, a concern was expressed that our by-product possession limit does not include provisions for transuranic i
element contamination on the ECHO-330.
This is a valid concern since this equipment is utilized at reactor sites and therefore subject to such contamination.
In order to provide for the possible transuranic contamination, we are requesting approval of revised Page 3, Section V which will indicate "... 0.5. curies of by-product material (including transuranic elements). as contamination on/within equipment, and/or as waste".

Gentlemen:

In order to provide for the possible transuranic contamination, we are requesting approval of revised Page 3,Section V which will indicate "... 0.5. curies of by-product material (including transuranic elements). as contamination on/within equipment, and/or as waste".

The overall.

curie limit has not been changed; therefore, the health physics.and administrative controls already in place continue to be more than adequate.
