STATUS REPORT AS OF APRIL 30, 1979

() As described in the previous status report, a committee of the National 1cademy of Sciences is performing a study of the overall energy situation in Puerto Rico for the Office of Energy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The portion of the study being prepared by an Electric Power Systems Subcommittee is nearing completion, and a meeting of the Subcommittee was held with government officials in Puerto Rico on April 24, 1979. The Subcommittee is expected to finalize its recom-mendations and issue a report to the Office of Energy in late May.

~j The results of the study by the Subcommittee of the National Acad-3 cmy of Sciences will be taken into account in the Authority's internal review of generation expansion which is continuing.

Representatives of the Authority met with the NRC Staff and the USGS Staff in Bethesda, Maryland, on March 28, 1979 to discuss the I

review of the geology and scismology of the Islote site. The Authority understands that the NRC Staff's Site Safety Evaluation Report for the Islote site is being issued by about the end of April. The Authority's continuing consideration of the Islote site will take into account the views expressed by the NRC Staff in the Site Safety Evaluation
