STATUS REPORT AS OF OCTOBER 16, 1978 The Authority's internal review of generatien expansion is al-most completed. Although some tentative decisions have been reached, no final decision has yet been made with respect to the precise type of generating unit which will be required in order to meet both the short-term and the long-term needs of Puerto Rico.
An important contribution to the Authority's long-term planning of electric power generation addition will be a study contracted for by the Office of Energy of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico with the National Academy of Sciences of the overall energy situation in Puerto Rico. It is expected that this study will be completed during ]979.
Meanwh.tle, the Authority has requested that the NRC Staff com-plete and issue its site safety review, particularly with respect to seismicity and geology. This is a very important element in the overall generation expansion study being conducted by the Authority.
The Authority is pleased that the NRC Staff has indicated its will-ingness to do so.
In light of these circumstances, the Authority does not expect to file any motion in this proceeding requiring any action by this Board in the near future, g tt C G OO y 7
