INTENT

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is issuing this Regulatory Issue Summary (RIS) to inform addressees that management oversight of NRC licensees in Mississippi has been transferred to the authority of NRC Region IV. No specific action nor written response is required.

BACKGROUND

The NRC Region I office located in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, was responsible for regulating NRC radioactive material licensees within the Agreement State of Mississippi.

In order to provide for more efficient and effective interactions between the NRC, its licensees and the State, NRC has transferred oversight of its radioactive materials licensees in Mississippi to the NRC Region IV office in Arlington, Texas.

SUMMARY OF ISSUE

If you intend to conduct licensed activities at Exclusive Federal jurisdiction sites within Mississippi or its off shore waters, you should file for reciprocity prior to conducting the work by contacting the NRC Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas at (817) 860-8100. NRC licensees working temporarily in other locations within the state should contact the State of Mississippi, Department of Health. The Department of Health may be contacted at (601) 576-7400.

BACKFIT DISCUSSION

This RIS requires no action nor written response and is, therefore, not a backfit under

10 CFR 50.109. Consequently, the staff did not perform a backfit analysis.

A notice of opportunity for public comment on this RIS was not published in the Federal Register because this RIS is informational, and does not represent a departure from current regulatory requirements.

NRC has determined that this action is not subject to the Small Business Regulatory Enforcement Fairness Act of 1996.
