The plant, operated by APS, is located 50 miles west of Phoenix.

The open house will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Palo Verde Energy Education Center, 600 North Airport Road in Buckeye. There will be no formal presentation by NRC at the open house.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to meet informally with the NRC staff, ask questions and learn about the agencys role in ensuring safe plant operation.

The NRC continually reviews the safety performance of Palo Verde and each of the nations commercial nuclear power plants, said Region IV Administrator Elmo E. Collins.

This is an opportunity for us to meet with members of the community and answer any questions they may have about our oversight.

The NRC said Palo Verde operated safely during 2010 and will receive the detailed inspection regime during 2011 that is used by the NRC for plants that are operating well. These inspections are performed by NRC Resident Inspectors assigned to the plant and by inspection specialists from the Region IV Office in Arlington, Texas.

A letter sent from the NRC Region IV office to plant officials addresses the performance of the plant during 2010 and will serve as the basis for the meeting discussion. The letter states that Palo Verde met all NRC safety objectives. It is available on the NRC website at:
