REYES TO BE NEW NRC REGION II ADMINISTRATOR The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has named Luis A. Reyes as new Regional Administrator of NRC Region II, which has offices in Atlanta.

Mr. Reyes, who has been Deputy Regional Administrator since June 1992, will succeed Stewart D. Ebneter, who is retiring. Mr.

Reyes will assume his new duties on January 3. A new Deputy Regional Administrator will be named soon.

A graduate of the University of Puerto Rico with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in nuclear engineering, Mr. Reyes joined NRC in February 1978 as a reactor inspector in the agency's Region III office in Illinois. He was the first NRC senior resident inspector at the Davis-Besse plant in Ohio; his performance earned him an NRC Meritorious Service Award. Later, he served in several different management posts in the Region III office.

In 1986, Mr. Reyes transferred to the Atlanta regional office, where he was first deputy director and later director of the Division of Reactor Projects before being appointed Deputy Regional Administrator. While in the division director post, he received the Presidential Meritorious Executive Award.

A licensed professional engineer, Mr. Reyes has done post-graduate work in fusion energy. Before joining NRC, he worked for Argonne National Laboratory at the Experimental Breeder Reactor II facility at Idaho National Engineering Laboratory.

Mr. Reyes and his wife, Alice, have a son, Luis, and a daughter, Maria, and live in Marietta, Georgia.
