No: 22-052 December 12, 2022 CONTACT: Office of Public Affairs, 301-415-8200 NRC Names David Skeen New Director of International Programs The Nuclear Regulatory Commission announced today that David Skeen has been selected as the agencys Director of the Office of International Programs, effective immediately, succeeding Nader L.

Mamish, who left the agency earlier this year. Skeen most recently has been serving as the offices acting director.

Skeen first joined the NRC in 1991 as a reactor systems engineer in the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation. He has held a variety of management leadership positions, including reactor policy advisor to former NRC Commissioner Jeffrey Merrifield and chief of staff for former NRC Commissioner Dale Klein. He later served as the Deputy Director, Division of Engineering, NRR. Following the Fukushima Daiichi accident in 2011, he was appointed Director, Japan Lessons-Learned Directorate and has been the OIP deputy director since 2014.

Its essential that the NRC continues to work collaboratively and strategically to ensure the peaceful use of nuclear energy around the world, said NRC Chair Christopher T. Hanson.

Dave embodies the qualities required to represent our agency with stakeholders who have international interests. He brings vast technical expertise in radiation safety, global standards, and diplomatic relations.

Prior to joining the NRC, Skeen worked in the electrical construction industry for 15 years on large industrial projects, including both fossil and nuclear power plants. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from West Virginia University and is a graduate of the NRC's Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program.

OIP is responsible for planning, developing, and implementing international nuclear safety, security, and nonproliferation activities that enhance the safe and secure use of nuclear and radioactive materials around the world, including guarding against the spread of nuclear weapons. It also licenses the export and import of nuclear materials and equipment.
