NOTE TO EDITORS:

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has published a new pamphlet and management directive (including a handbook) describing improvements in the public petition process under the Commission's requirements of 10 CFR 2.206. Copies of both Management Directive 8.11 and the pamphlet (Public Petition Process, NUREG/BR-0200) may be obtained from the U.S. Government Printing Office, P.O. Box 37082, Washington, DC 20013-7082; telephone (202) 512-2249. The pamphlet is also available from the Office of Public Affairs, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001; telephone (301) 415-8200 or 1-800-368-5642.

In addition, an electronic bulletin board system (BBS) has been established to provide the public with the status of all pending petitions. The BBS can be accessed by dialing directly 1-800-303-9672 or through FedWorld using Internet and Telnet:
