No: 20-017 March 17, 2020 CONTACT: Ivonne Couret, 301-415-8200 NRC Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards Re-Appoints Charles Brown to Leadership Position The Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards has re-appointed Charles H. Brown, Jr., to a fourth term.

The ACRS, a group of experienced technical experts, advises the Commission, independently of the NRC staff, on safety issues related to the licensing and operation of nuclear power plants, health physics and radiation protection.

Brown earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Louisville. He also earned a Certificate of Completion in Nuclear Reactor Engineering from The Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory.

Brown is a senior advisor for Electrical Systems at BMT Syntek Technologies, Inc., with more than 35 years of experience in engineering management including: involvement in policy setting and planning; technical direction for reactor plants and their instrumentations; control, protection, and technical systems equipment design; development and systems integration; procurement; and long-term support program management for all nuclear-powered ships for the U.S. Navys Nuclear Propulsion Program.

He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Civilian Meritorious Service Award in 1999 and the Senior Executive Service Meritorious Executive Award in 1988 and 1996.
