No: 18-006 February 12, 2018 CONTACT: Holly Harrington, 301-415-8200 NRC Presents FY 2018-2022 Strategic Plan The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has published its updated Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2018-2022. The document provides a blueprint for the agency to plan, implement, and monitor work needed to achieve the agencys mission for the next four years. It establishes strategic goals, long-term strategies and performance expectations, and provides a basis for the agencys annual budget and performance plans.

The NRC issued its first Strategic Plan in September 1997 and is required to update it every four years. The FY 2018-2022 edition is due to Congress and the President today.

The agencys strategic goals and objectives remain essentially unchanged from the previous (FY 2014-2018) Strategic Plan, and they correlate to the agencys central regulatory functions. This updated Strategic Plan includes a new vision statement, which emphasizes that the NRC staff are guided by the Principles of Good Regulation independence, clarity, openness, reliability, and efficiency in carrying out regulatory activities. The plan also contains general updates and editorial enhancements.

The agency sought both staff and public comment on the draft plan. The input was considered, summarized, and provided to the Commission in developing the final plan.
