No: 16-021 April 29, 2016 CONTACT: Ivonne Couret, 301-415-8200 NRC Receives High Marks for Small Business Contracting The Nuclear Regulatory Commission received an A from the Small Business Administration (SBA) today for its Fiscal Year (FY) 2015 efforts to meet the Federal contracting goals for small businesses. This marks the fifth consecutive year the NRC has earned this recognition.

We are proud that the agencys efforts towards working with veteran entrepreneurs and the veteran business community have led the agency to exceed its goal for service-disabled veterans for the fourth consecutive year, said Vonna Ordaz, director of the Office of Small Business and Civil Rights. We are also proud that our agencys targeted activities to provide business opportunities to economically distressed areas has led the NRC to exceed its goal for businesses located in historically underutilized business zones, a goal we missed in fiscal year 2014.

The NRC remains committed to ensuring that agency policies, practices, and operations afford the maximum prime and sub-contract opportunities for small businesses, said Chairman Stephen Burns.

In FY 2015, the NRC had $239 million in eligible contracting dollars. Of that amount, over 31 percent went to small businesses - exceeding the agency goal of 29 percent. A breakdown of individual agency scores, as well as a detailed explanation of the scorecard methodology used by the SBA, is available here.
