No: 14-019 March 13, 2014 CONTACT: David McIntyre, 301-415-8200 NRC Seeks Public Comment on Draft Environmental Report for Davis-Besse Nuclear Plant License Renewal - Meetings Scheduled for March 25 The Nuclear Regulatory Commission seeks public comment on a draft report assessing the environmental impacts of extending the operating license for the Davis-Besse nuclear power plant in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

The Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station is a single pressurized water reactor and is licensed to operate through April 22, 2017. First Energy Nuclear Operating Co. applied on Aug. 27, 2010, to renew the license for an additional 20 years.

The draft environmental impact statement contains the NRC staffs preliminary finding that the environmental impacts of license renewal would not preclude renewing the license. This finding is based on the analysis and findings in the agencys generic environmental impact statement on license renewal, the environmental report submitted by First Energy, consultation with federal, state and local agencies, the NRC staffs own independent review, and the staffs consideration of public comments.

The NRC staff will hold two public meetings March 25 at the Camp Perry Conference Center, 1000 Lawrence Road, Building 600, in Port Clinton, Ohio, to present the reports findings and receive comments from the public. The first session will run from 2-4 p.m., and the second from 7-9 p.m.

Comments may also be submitted over the federal rulemakings website at www.regulations.gov, using Docket ID NRC-2010-0298, or mailed to Cindy Bladey, Chief, Rules, Announcements, and Directives Branch, Office of Administration, Mail Stop: 3WFN-06-44M, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, DC 20555-0001. Comments will be accepted through April 21.

The draft environmental impact statement for the Davis-Besse license renewal (NUREG-1437, supplement 52), along with information on the staffs review of the license renewal application, is available on the NRC website.
