The Nuclear Regulator y Commission will discuss the agency s annual saf ety per f or mance assessm ent of t he Davi s-Besse nuclear power plant dur ing a hybr id public meeting scheduled f or J une 22.

The single-unit plant, located in Oak Har bor, Ohio, is oper ated by E ner gy Har bor Nuclear Cor p.

The meeting will be held at 5 p. m., E astern time, at the Oak Har bor Public Libr ar y, 147 W. Main Str eet, in Oak Har bor. NRC staf f r esponsible f or plant inspection and over sight, including the r esident inspector s based f ull-time at the site, will make a presentation and answer questions from the public after th e f or mal por tion of the meeting. Member s of the public ar e welcome to attend in per son or vir tually using the f ollowing webinar link. The NRC continues to monitor the health emer gency status in Oak Har bor and will inform the public if in - per son attendance is no longer viable.

The NRC det er m i ned t hat Davi s-Besse oper ated saf ely dur ing 2021. NRC inspector s identif ied a white f inding involving the plants failure to select a suitable replaceme nt par t f or an em er gency di esel gener at or and a gr eat er than gr een f inding i n t he ar ea of cyber secur i t y. As a r esul t, t he NRC pl aced Davi s-Besse in the Regulator y Response Column of the NRC s per f or m ance Action Matrix as of the thir d quar ter of 2021. The NRC will per f or m supplemental inspections on both issues to independently ver if y that the plant h as t aken suf f i ci ent cor r ect i ve act i ons t o pr event r ecur r ence.

The NRC React or Over si ght P r ocess uses col or-coded inspection f indings and indicator s to measur e pl ant per f or m ance. The col or s st ar t at gr een and i ncr ease t o whi t e, yel l ow or r ed, com m ensur at e wi t h the saf ety signif icance of the issues involved. I nspection f indings or per f ormance indicators with mor e than ver y low saf ety signif icance tr igger incr eased NRC over sight.

I nspections ar e per f or med by two NRC r esident inspector s assigned to each plant and specialist inspectors from the Region III Office in Lisle, Illinois.

The annual assessment letters f or D a v is -B e ss e and the m e e tin g n o tic e are available on the NRC web site. Cu rre n t p e rf orm an c e inf ormation f or the plant is also available and is updated on a quarterly basis.
