NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa.resource@nrc.gov Site: www.nrc.gov Blog: http://public-blog.nrc-gateway.gov No.13-033 April 24, 2013 NRC MEETING IN ROCKVILLE, MD, MAY 8 TO DISCUSS CUMULATIVE EFFECTS OF REGULATION The Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will hold a public meeting May 8 in Rockville, Md., to discuss how the agency can best account for the combined effect of multiple regulatory actions.

The Commission recently directed the staff to continue efforts aimed at ensuring the agency can consider more completely the overall impacts of multiple rules, orders, generic communications, advisories, and other regulatory actions on licensees and their ability to focus effectively on items of greatest safety import. The Commission also directed the staff to include opinions from those interested in the topic, write up any recommendations and report them to the Commission by March 2015.

The meeting will be held in Room T10-A1 of the NRCs Two White Flint building at 11555 Rockville Pike in Rockville from 1-5 p.m. The staff will describe the Commissions directions, as well as the staffs current approach to addressing the Commissions instructions.

The staff expects industry and public interest groups to comment on the effort and the public is invited to take part in the discussion.

Seating will be limited at the meeting, which will include teleconference and webinar access. For details, contact Tara Inverso at 301-415-1024 or tara.inverso@nrc.gov by May 1 to ensure enough resources are available.
