NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, D.C. 20555-0001 E-mail: opa.resource@nrc.gov Site: http://www.nrc.gov No.10-006 January 11, 2010 NRC INVITES NOMINATIONS FOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL USE OF ISOTOPES The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is seeking nominations for the position of diagnostic radiologist on the Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI).

Committee members currently serve a four-year term and may be considered for reappointment to an additional term.

The ACMUI advises NRC staff on policy and technical issues that arise in the regulation of the medical use of radioactive materials. Responsibilities include providing comments on changes to NRC regulations and guidance documents; evaluating certain non-routine uses of radioactive material; providing technical assistance in licensing, inspection, and enforcement cases; and bringing key issues to the attention of the NRC for appropriate action.

ACMUI members have the medical and technical skills needed to address evolving issues. The current membership is comprised of the following positions: nuclear medicine physician; nuclear cardiologist; medical physicist in nuclear medicine [unsealed byproduct material]; therapy medical physicist; radiation safety officer; nuclear pharmacist; two radiation oncologists; patients' rights advocate; Food and Drug Administration representative; state representative; health care administrator and diagnostic radiologist.

Interested nominees should submit an electronic copy of their resume or curriculum vitae, along with a cover letter, to Ashley M. Cockerham via Ashley.cockerham@nrc.gov.
