Diane Screnci, 610-337-5330 Neil Sheehan, 610-337-5331 NRC to Conduct Public Meeting to Discuss 2016 Performance of Susquehanna Nuclear Power Plant Nuclear Regulatory Commission staff will be available to discuss the 2016 safety performance of the Susquehanna nuclear power plant during a public open house planned for May 4 in Berwick, Pa.

The plant is operated by Riverstone Holdings.

The open house will take place from 4:30-6 p.m. at the Susquehanna Energy Information Center, 634 Salem Blvd. On hand to discuss the plants performance and the NRCs oversight of the facility will be agency employees responsible for inspections of the plant, including the resident inspectors based at the site on a full-time basis.

Susquehanna operated safely during 2016. At the end of last year, the plant had no inspection findings or performance indicators outside the normal band. As a result, it is currently under the NRCs baseline level of oversight, which entails thousands of hours of inspection each year.

We encourage members of the public interested in learning more about our oversight activities at the Susquehanna plant to attend our open house, said NRC Region I Administrator Dan Dorman.

Our resident inspectors and regional staff will be prepared to discuss, among other matters, the plants recent safety performance history and our inspection plans for the remainder of 2017, which include reviews in such areas as fire protection and emergency planning.

Under the NRCs Reactor Oversight Process, the agency gauges plant performance through the use of color-coded inspection findings and performance indicators, which are statistical measurements of plant performance. Any inspection findings or performance indicators that are greater than green (very low safety significance) trigger increased NRC oversight.

Day-to-day inspections are performed by two resident inspectors assigned to the plant. Reviews are also carried out at the sites by specialist inspectors assigned to the agencys Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pa.

The Annual Assessment letter for Susquehanna, as well as the notice for the meeting, are available on the NRC website. Current performance information is also available for Unit 1 and Unit 2.
