NRC NEWS U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION Office of Public Affairs Telephone: 301/415-8200 Washington, DC 20555-001 E-mail: opa@nrc.gov Web Site: http://www.nrc.gov/OPA No.00-146 September 26, 2000 NRC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON MEDICAL USES OF ISOTOPES TO MEET IN ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, ON NOVEMBER 8 - 9 The Nuclear Regulatory Commissions Advisory Committee on the Medical Uses of Isotopes (ACMUI) has scheduled a public meeting on November 8-9 in Rockville, Maryland.

The committee advises the NRC on policy and technical issues that arise in regulating the medical uses of radioactive material for diagnosis and therapy.

The meeting will be held in Room T-2B3 of the agencys Two White Flint North building, at 11545 Rockville Pike, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on November 8, and from 8 a.m. to noon the following day.

The committee will discuss the rulemaking status of the regulation on Medical Use of Byproduct Material, its implementation and issues concerning intravascular brachytherapy, which is the placement of temporary or permanent radioactive sources within blood vessels to prevent or reduce blockage of the vessels after other cardiovascular treatments. The committee also will review its own performance using established criteria, NRCs Strategic Plan and the planning, budget and performance measures process.
