Reference:
NRC Generic Letter 2008-01, "Managing. Gas Accumulation in Emergency Core Cooling, Decay Heat Removal, and Containment Spray Systems," dated January 11, 2008 Because of the outage schedules for STP Unit 1 and Unit 2, STP Nuclear Operating Company (STPNOC) will not be able to complete the necessary assessments to fully respond to the referenced Generic Letter (GL) 2008-01 by the requested nine-month date (October 11, 2008).
GL 2008-01 includes provisions for a three-month response if a licensee cannot provide the information requested for the nine-month response. In a phone call on April 3, 2008, STPNOC and the NRC staff agreed that the three-month response can be deferred to May 12, 2008.
The additional time for the three-month letter will allow STPNOC to perform some of the GL 2008-01 evaluations required for Unit 1 during the spring outage currently in progress and better define the remaining Unit 1 evaluation scope. The extended due date provides time to prepare and submit the response after the outage is completed.
STPNOC is tracking the May 12, 2008 committed date for the three month response as action CR 08-796-9 (see Attachment).
If there are any questions or if additional information is needed, please contact Wayne Harrison at (361) 972-7298 or me at (361) 972-7136.
