License Amendment Request: Supplement to Request to Incorporate Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment into the Categorization Process By letter dated June 22, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System Accession No. ML17173A875) Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (SNC) submitted a License Amendment Request (LAR) for Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP), Units 1 and 2 and requested U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) approval to use the Seismic Probabilistic Risk Assessment (SPRA) model in the existing 10 CFR 50.69 categorization process. Based on discussion with the NRC staff, SNC proposes to clarify the wording for the original operating license condition included in enclosure Section 2.3 of the LAR. The enclosure to this letter contains a revised markup of the operating license condition.

The enclosed changes to the license condition wording do not impact the original determination of no significant hazards consideration that was previously provided in the June 22, 2017 amendment request, nor do they impact the environmental consideration provided in this request.

Enclosure to NL-18-1 043 License Condition Markup Revised Section 2.3, Description of The Proposed Change SNC proposes the addition of the following condition to the operating license[s] of VEGP Unit 1 and Unit 2 to document the NRC's approval of the use 10 CFR 50.69.

Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) is approved to implement 10 CFR 50.69 using the processes for categorization of Risk-Informed Safety Class (RISC)-1, RISC-2, RISC-3, and RISC-4 structures, systems, and components (SSCs) specified in the license amendments No.

173 (Unit 1) and No. 155 (Unit 2). 8Sing Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) models to evaluate risk associated with internal events including internal flooding , internal fire , and seismic events. SNC is approved to utilize the seismic probabilistic risk assessment (SPRA) model for use in the categorization process rather than the previously approved seismic margin approach.

Prior NRC approval, under 10 CFR 50.90, is required for a change to the categorization process specified above.
