Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington, D. C. 20555-0001 Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Evacuation Time Estimate Update Ladies and Gentlemen:

By letter dated December 7, 2012 (ML12346A412), and as updated by letter dated March 28, 2013 (ML13088A036), Southern Nuclear Operating Company (SNC) submitted the Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Plant (HNP), Units 1 and 2, Evacuation Time Estimate (ETE) Update. Based upon further discussion between SNC and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), SNC is revising the ETE Update to more closely align with the guidance provided in NUREG/CR-7002, Criteria for Development of Evacuation Time Estimate Studies.

Specifically, the assumptions utilized for the ETE have been modified to be consistent with the assumptions provided in NUREG/CR-7002. Based on the revised assumptions, the existing evacuation strategy remains functional. The Enclosure provided in this letter supersedes the Enclosures provided in letters dated December 7, 2012 and March 28, 2013 in their entirety.

This letter contains no NRC commitments. If you have any questions, please contact Ken McElroy at (205) 992-7369.

Sincerely, C.R. Pierce Regulatory Affairs Director CRP/RMJ/
