U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ND-21-0277 Enclosure Page 2 of 3 ITAAC Statement Desion Commitment:

2. Data obtained from the metal impact monitoring sensors can be retrieved in the MCR.

Inspections. Tests. Analyses:

Inspection will be performed for retrievability of data from the metal impact monitoring sensors in the MCR.

Acceptance Criteria:

Data obtained from the metal impact monitoring sensors can be retrieved in the MCR.

ITAAC Determination Basis An inspection was performed in accordance with preoperational test, 3-SMS-ITPP-501 (Reference 1), to ensure retrievability of data from the metal impact monitoring sensors in the Main Control Room (MCR). This inspection was performed to verify that data obtained from the metal impact monitoring sensors(SMS-YE001 through SMS-YE016) can be retrieved in the MCR.

The inspection utilized one of the Operator stations in the MCR to navigate to the Special Monitoring System (SMS)loose parts screen. The MCR monitor was verified to be capable of displaying the 16 SMS accelerometers. Testing was performed using a calibrated impact hammer within 3feet of the SMS sensor that was tested and an inspection was performed to verify a value change was displayed when each sensor was impact tested.

The inspection documented in the Unit 3 preoperational test 3-SMS-ITPP-501 (Reference 1) using Work Order 1059870(Reference 2) confirmed that data obtained from the metal impact monitoring sensors could be retrieved in the MCR. The results are documented in SV3-SMS-ITR-800574(Reference 3) and provide evidence that the ITAAC Acceptance Criteria was met.

References 1 through 3 are available for NRC inspection as well as ITAAC 2.5.06.02 Completion Package (Reference 4).

ITAAC Finding Review In accordance with plant procedures for ITAAC completion, Southern Nuclear Operating Company(SNC) performed a review of all ITAAC findings pertaining to the subject ITAAC and associated corrective actions. This review found there were no relevant ITAAC findings associated with this ITAAC. The ITAAC completion review is documented in the ITAAC Completion Package for ITAAC 2.5.06.02(Reference 4) and is available for NRC review.

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ND-21-0277 Enclosure Page 3 of 3 ITAAC Completion Statement Based on the above information, SMC hereby notifies the NRG that ITAAC 2.5.06.02 was performed for VEGP Unit 3 and that the prescribed acceptance criteria were met.
