Response to SDAA Audit Question Question Number: A-3.4.2-9 Receipt Date: 08/14/2023 Question:

Follow-on from A-3.4.2-4: NRC staff thinks that the Seismic Category I portions of the Reactor Building or the Control Building should be changed to the Seismic Category I portions of the Reactor Building and the Control Building. NuScale is requested to update the application accordingly and post to the eRR.

Response

The NuScale writing style guide specifically identifies that or implies and unless otherwise stated. As per NuScale Regulatory Affairs Style Guide, the continued use of or has been deemed appropriate and follows the same convention of the COL item approved in the DCA. In this context the use of or addresses that nearby structures exposed to external flooding will not collapse either building. The use of and implies the nearby structures exposed to external flooding will not cause both of the buildings to collapse, not each building individually.

No changes to the SDAA are necessary.
