NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY OF THE FINAL PLANT-SPECIFIC SUPPLEMENT 60, TO THE GENERIC ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT STATEMENT FOR LICENSE RENEWAL OF NUCLEAR PLANTS REGARDING LICENSE RENEWAL FOR COMANCHE PEAK NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (EPID NUMBER: L-2022-LNE-0004) (DOCKET NUMBERS: 50-445 AND 50-446)
Dear Ken J. Peters:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed the final plant-specific Supplement 60, to NUREG-1437, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants (GElS), regarding the license renewal of Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-87 and NPF-89 for an additional 20 years of operation for Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant, Units 1 and 2, respectively (CPNPP). The NRC staff has prepared a Federal Register (FR) Notice of Availability (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) ML24074A433) to advise the public that the supplement is publicly available from ADAMS. ADAMS is accessible from the NRC website at https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/adams.html/. The final Supplement 60, License Renewal, to the GElS is ML24078A261.
As discussed in Chapter 4 of the supplement, the NRC staffs recommendation is that the environmental impacts of license renewal for CPNPP are reasonable for the license renewal action, preserving the option of license renewal for energy planning. This recommendation is based on: (1) the analysis and findings in the GElS Supplement; (2) the Vistra Environmental Report; (3) the NRC staffs consultation with Federal, State, local, and Tribal government agencies; (4) the NRC staff's independent environmental review; and (5) the NRC staff's consideration of public comments.
A separate Notice of Availability of the final supplemental environmental impact statement will be placed in the FR through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The minimum 30-day public review period end date is calculated from the date on which the EPA notice is published in the FR.
