Subject:

HI-STORM 100 Multipurpose Canister Storage System Amendment 17 Request

Dear Mr. McKirgan:

Holtec International herein submits a request to amend Certificate of Compliance (CoC) 72-1014 for the HI-STORM 100 Multipurpose Canister Storage System. The proposed changes include an update to the description of the HI-STORM 100 system in the CoC to clearly indicate that only the portions of the components that come into contact with the pool water need to be made of stainless steel or aluminum.

A summary of all of the proposed changes (SOPC), with more detailed description of the changes, reason for the changes and justification for the changes, is provided in Attachment 1. Attachment 2 contains proposed changes for the CoC. No changes are proposed for the CoC Appendices. provides the proposed changed page of the HI-STORM 100 FSAR which supports this LAR. All proposed changes in Attachments 2 and 3 are provided in mark-up format to facilitate the Staffs review.

The proposed changes in Attachments 2 and 3 are based on the most recently approved CoC Amendment (Amendment 15) and the associated FSAR Revision 22. While an Amendment 16 LAR has been submitted (ADAMS Accession No. ML21068A360) it is anticipated that the brevity of the proposed changes in this Amendment request will allow this Amendment 17 to be approved before Amendment 16.

No attachments to this letter contain Holtec proprietary information.
