1 Meeting with Texas LLW Authority A meeting was held on September 29, 1987, in the Silver Spring office of NM55 bitween the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority and its <

c1nsultants and State Agreement Program (SLITP) and the Division of Low-Level WasteManagementandDecommissioning(LLWM). Themeetingincluded1)a briefing by the Texas representatives to introduce LLWM to the conceptual design of a proposed LLW disposal facility and 2) an opportunity to question the NRC staff on current efforts related to guidance on quality assurance and on the design and construction of alternative disposal methods. The meeting proved beneficial and also identified the need for continuing discussions in the near future to cover additional topics such as the State's current efforts on site characterization of the proposed LLW site.

Atlas Corporation Order Response On September 24, 1987, Atlas Corporation responded to the Order issued on July 31, 1987.

Proposed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Ground-Water Standard for Title,'

I Uranium R111 Tatrines Sites On September 24, 1987, EPA published proposed ground-water protection standards for Title I urantin recovery sites (52 FR 36000). The Title I sites are those inactive sites being remediated by the Department of Energy (DOE). The proposed standards would replace portions of 40 CFR.192 romanaled by the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals on September 3,1985. A public hearing is scheduled 'for October 29,1987 in Durango, Colorado. The comment period ends on October 26, 1987 so that comments will be filed before the hearing. Staff is developing consents on the proposed rule. In order to meet this very short comment period, promet action at all levels will be required. DOE has asked for an extension of the comment period but EPA staff indicated to IRC staff that it will not be I rented since it would require postponement of the announced hearing.

Meeting with Naas LLW Authority A meeting was held on September 29,1987, in the $11rer Spring office of NHSS between the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Authority and its consultants and State Agreement Program (SLITP) and the Division of Low-Level Waste Management and Decommissioning (LLWM). The meeting included 1) a briefing by the Texas representatives to introduce LLWM to the conceptual design of a proposed LLW disposal facility and 2) an opportunity to question the NRC staff on current efforts related to guidance on quality assurance and i on the design and construction of alternative disposal methods.
