1 Project Number 538

'l STN 4

Dear Mr. Cases 4u 1

Attached hereto please find 3 original copies (transmitted under separate cover are 12 conformed copies) of the 251 General Electric Standard Safety Analysis Report for the above number application.

4 The 251 GESSAR consists of 8 volumes describing and analyzing a standard

{

251 inch vessel size boiling water reactor.

It conforms to the Commission's

.,g

" Standard Format and Content of Safety Analysis Reports for Nuclear Power h

Plants," dated October, 1972. Where possible, the 251 GESSAR text is exactly the same as the text of the 238 GESSAR text (Docket Number STN-50-447).

Differences occur only where the size dependent parameters occur, and such f

1.>

differences are readily identifiable by green colored pages.

N We request that the 251 GESSAR and all correspondence relating to it be placed in the public document room and that it be assigned a docket number, presumably in the standardized docket number series. It is further requested that the Commission issue public notice of receipt of the action by publication

  • /:

in the Federal Register and issuance of a press release in the same manner as

.i for a specific plant application.

j

a General Electric is prepared to cooperate with and aid the Staff and the ACRS s

in their evaluations of the 251 GESSAR. We trust that the cMaination of this

.,},

effort will be a Staff Safety Evaluation and an ACRS letter, which, at a j

minimum, find that plants meeting the design contained in the 251 GESSAR can be constructed in accordance with the Atomic Energy Act of 1959, as amended, Q

and regulations promulgated pursuant thereto. Based on specific plant licensing experience, we expect that present procedures will be sufficient to initiate j

review of this filing pending publication in the Federal Register of detailed

[

procedures specifically related to this type of filing.
