DEC 191985 Frontier Technology Corporation
-ATTN: E. F. Janzow, Ph.D.
President 2671 Crone Road Xenia, OH. 45385 Gentlemen:
This is in response to your letter dated December 3,1985 requesting the removal of source material from Subitem 6.A. of your license. In Item 5.J. of your application dated February 15, 1985, you requested equipment contaminated with
" alpha, beta, gama emitting isotopes". Traditionally, such broad requests have been represented in licensing nomenclature as "Any Licensed Material" (which includes source material) or, as in your case, "Any byproduct, source or special nuclear material". Since Item 5.J. of your request did not exclude source material, we did not exclude it form Subitem 6.F. of your license. You were restr1cted to receipt of contaminated equipment from Monsanto Corp. only ber.ause allowing receipt of such material from "other licensees" would require you to be licensed as a waste disposal vendor (requiring the assessment of an additional fee). This type of activity did not appear to be consistent with the type of licensed activity requested in your application.
We are forwarding a copy of this letter to our Licensing' Fee Management Branch (LFMB). We have advised LfMB that while Subitem 6.F. of your license lists
. source material, Subitem 9.F. effectively restricts your authorization to special nuclear material. They will advise you of their final decision.
Sincerely.
